Overview An opportunity has arisen for us to recruit a Gas & Power Shift Trader to join an expanding 24/7 Gas & Power Trading team. As part of the Commercial Trading team, you will be responsible for the management and optimisation of 4.7 GW of UK generation capacity owned by the business. You will be responsible for executing trading strategies, utilising your expertise in the UK wholesale energy markets and the balancing mechanism, optimising thermal generation plant to maximise gross margin, and offer support to the wider business functions when required. The role will be based at the London Office, where Trading, Risk, Policy, Investment and Corporate Finance functions are hosted. Key Responsibilities and Duties will include:- Reporting to the Shift Trading Manager, the key responsibilities and duties will include:- Trading within day gas and power markets, working as part of a 24/7 operations team on a full shift rotation basis Devising, developing and implementing short term trading strategies, using short-term and Balancing Mechanism markets to optimise generation and maximise overall plant revenue Dispatching our portfolio to capture gross margin from optimal generation/trading decisions, operating within credit guidelines and risk limits Managing the business's contracted positions to avoid exposure to volatile and punitive imbalance charges Coordinating and planning short term outages to minimise commercial impact, and manage the process of units returning to service Ensuring all power market license conditions are upheld through good communications with the relevant network operator(s) and implementation of network codes Adhering to the business's Trading Guidelines and Delegation of Authority processes Assisting with requests from stakeholders across the group when required, helping to promote the team and support the successful growth of the business Ideal Candidate Good knowledge of the energy industry, including gas and power operations Experience of the UK Spot and OTC markets would be highly desirable Ability to quickly translate complex analysis and accurate interpretation of market and system data thus ensuring optimal trading and asset profiling decisions are taken Excellent computer skills, SQL, VBA Understanding of Grid Code Behaviours High level of analytical skills and attention to detail Ability to work effectively as part of a team and alone Ability to cope with pressurised situations and adhering to deadlines Effective communication and time management skills Qualifications The post holder should be qualified to degree level or equivalent Remuneration The successful candidate will be appointed on a personal contract which reflects the responsibilities of the role as well as the abilities of the individual. The role, under the supervision of the Head of Business Development, will be responsible for contributing to the development and execution of the Oil Trading strategy of the trading business. MAIN JOB FUNCTION Seek out opportunities to deliver the trading strategy. In close co-ordination with other parts of the company, develop and deliver integrated opportunities that add value to affiliates other than the trading business. OVERVIEW This well known integrated oil company with a global presence is looking to hire a LNG Trading Desk Analyst. The LNG Trading Desk Analyst position is a permanent role based in London to support the LNG trading department. KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS: Adhere to all relevant compliance and trading procedures and rules. In addition, the job holder will provide support to the analytics Team and the LNG trading Team in the key areas described below (in order of importance): Model Development and Data Automation; Scraps LNG supply and demand data from various sources in an automated way. Ensures that data are available in a database. Develops and implements supply and demand stack models to forecast LNG flows and price/spread. Market intelligence Support; Develop extensive network with external market players Acquire information from industry network. Trading Strategy Support; Contributes in discussions of trading ideas of other traders. Develops models to back test trading strategies. Develops models to score and select trading idea and strategies based on agreed parameters. System Enhancement; Drive IT enhancements required to trade new products by being the interface between Front Office and departments such as IT or Middle Office. Builds systems or system add-ons that are required to broaden the desk's product capabilities. Methodology Advice; Gives input on best-practice risk measurement and pricing techniques. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: This position reports to the LNG Analytics Manager and is expected to develop and maintain close ties with the following external and internal interfaces: LNG Traders Other Traders Originators Trading desk analysts Other, longer term oriented Analytics teams Peers at other energy trading companies CANDIDATE SPECIFICATIONS: 4+ years of work experience in a trading house, utility, analytics provider, consultancy. Experience in energy commodities trading (ideally LNG). Ability to build models to: scrape data from various sources and warehouse them, analyse price formation, manage trading positions. Understanding of the fundamental drivers of global LNG market as well as local power, gas and carbon markets. Computer programming skills (good knowledge of at least one programming language). Ability to clearly and concisely communicate. Ability to work under pressure, time constraints and to establish priorities. Strong negotiation and influencing skills. Authenticity.
