We are recruiting for an exciting newly created Commercial Manager role working in the fuels retail sector for an expanding and forward thinking business.  This is an important hire for the business and the successful candidate will have a strong fuels background with an understanding of pricing and operations.  In conjunction with the Fuels Director, you will be involved in negotiating fuel supply across the country, have responsibility for the fuels pricing team and the gravitas to deputise for the Fuels Director.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Timely co-ordination and accurate preparation of information in respect of fuel supply contracts, fuel supply offers and other fuel related matters in order to assist the Fuels Director with relevant supply contract negotiations and day to day fuel related matters
  • Involvement in the negotiation of fuel supply agreements with the Fuels Director, effectively communicating with third party suppliers and contractors
  • Contributing to the analysis and strategic selection of appropriate supplier and brand at a site by site and network level
  • Involvement in the further development of commercial opportunities including Bunkering, Ad Blue, LPG, and future fuels strategy
  • The day to day Retail Pricing aspects of the Fuels department, including but not limited to:   
  • The day to day management of the Company’s Retail Fuel Prices taking into account the Company’s strategic objectives in respect of both fuel volumes and margins and the impact of these upon the broader retail offering on a site by site and network level
  • Providing daily reporting in respect of the above
  • Providing direction to the Fuel team in respect of the Company’s day to day wet stock strategy reflecting the needs to balance cash flow whilst minimising the buying cost of the fuels, whilst maintaining adequate stock levels and avoiding left on boards
  • Reviewing the Company’s retail pricing strategy with the Fuels Director taking into account Price Elasticity analysis, Competitor Pricing and Promotional activity and any other relevant input
  • Maintain and fully understand the Company’s various Fuel Supply Arrangements and Agreements, including, for example, any “take or pay” implications for volume shortfalls, or additional rebates for the exceeding of targets
  • Supporting the Fuels Planning team with maintenance of wet stock across the network and assisting with distribution and allocation issues
  • Deputising for the Fuels Director as required
  • Representing the company at industry events

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • An in depth knowledge and understanding of the commercial aspects of Fuels procurement
  • An in depth knowledge of the UK inland supply and logistics fuels infrastructure
  • An in depth knowledge of the physical properties of all motor fuel types
  • An in depth knowledge of the workings of a petrol station forecourt
  • An in depth understanding of Price Elasticity modelling and other Retail Pricing tools/methodologies
  • An in depth understanding of Fuels cost price methodologies
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and to work to deadlines
  • Ability to achieve targets whilst maintaining accuracy
  • Positive working relationships with colleagues and external contacts
  • Highly developed analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strategic thinking
