Overview
An opportunity has arisen for us to recruit a Gas & Power Shift Trader to join an expanding 24/7 Gas & Power Trading team. As part of the Commercial Trading team, you will be responsible for the management and optimisation of 4.7 GW of UK generation capacity owned by the business. You will be responsible for executing trading strategies, utilising your expertise in the UK wholesale energy markets and the balancing mechanism, optimising thermal generation plant to maximise gross margin, and offer support to the wider business functions when required. The role will be based at the London Office, where Trading, Risk, Policy, Investment and Corporate Finance functions are hosted.

Key Responsibilities and Duties will include:-
Reporting to the Shift Trading Manager, the key responsibilities and duties will include:-

Trading within day gas and power markets, working as part of a 24/7 operations team on a full shift rotation basis
Devising, developing and implementing short term trading strategies, using short-term and Balancing Mechanism markets to optimise generation and maximise overall plant revenue
Dispatching our portfolio to capture gross margin from optimal generation/trading decisions, operating within credit guidelines and risk limits
Managing the business's contracted positions to avoid exposure to volatile and punitive imbalance charges
Coordinating and planning short term outages to minimise commercial impact, and manage the process of units returning to service
Ensuring all power market license conditions are upheld through good communications with the relevant network operator(s) and implementation of network codes
Adhering to the business's Trading Guidelines and Delegation of Authority processes
Assisting with requests from stakeholders across the group when required, helping to promote the team and support the successful growth of the business

Ideal Candidate
Good knowledge of the energy industry, including gas and power operations
Experience of the UK Spot and OTC markets would be highly desirable
Ability to quickly translate complex analysis and accurate interpretation of market and system data thus ensuring optimal trading and asset profiling decisions are taken
Excellent computer skills, SQL, VBA
Understanding of Grid Code

The post holder should be qualified to degree level or equivalent

Remuneration
The successful candidate will be appointed on a personal contract which reflects the responsibilities of the role as well as the abilities of the individual.
