Our client, one of the largest fuel and lubricant distributors in the UK, are looking for a Head of Operations, based out of their head office in Lincolnshire. The business service thousands of domestic, agricultural, haulage and commercial customers and independent retail garages across a dozen counties. Employing over 70 staff, and operating across nine locations, they pride themselves on providing first-rate customer service.
As part of their ambitious future growth plans they are now looking to recruit a newly created “Head of Operations” to join the existing senior leadership team. They will work closely with the General Manager to manage day-to-day running of the business and deliver planned improvements. This will cover the management of teams across Sales/Commercial, Transport, Finance and Operations.
As the Head of Operations, you will be required to:
assist the General Manager providing support and guidance to all teams across the business
take responsibility for maximising sales growth, business improvement and delivering year-on-year efficiencies by exploiting technological and digital opportunities
lead the development of the transport team and operating systems, supporting line managers to drive efficiencies, implement sustainable changes based on robust analytical data, and support with recruitment, training and engagement agendas
provide monthly reporting on key performance indicators whilst making recommendations for performance improvements
ensure compliance with all Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures whilst driving down the number of near misses and incidents
oversee the day to day management of the Transport operations, ensuring the company are compliant to all industry and legislative standards
support the Customer Service and Sales teams maintain the business’ excellent client retention whilst implementing changes to maximise sales opportunities, generating new business and achieve year on year growth.
support the Depot Operations Team in the maintenance of all eight regional depots
lead, coach and mentor direct reports as part of the company’s ongoing succession strategy, providing motivational leadership to assist with personal and professional development
demonstrate excellent people management skills, such as recruitment and selection, absence and performance management, training and development, culture and engagement.
provide first-class customer service at all times in line with the company ethos.
The ideal candidate will:
be an experienced logistics, transport or operations manager with at least 5 years’ experience
have senior management or leadership level experience and be able to demonstrate effective people and relationship management
have excellent business acumen and be able to identify critical business objectives and challenges to influence necessary process or change
possess strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills
ideally have experience of using software such as TouchStar, LoadMap2 and Codas
be computer literate to a high level
be comfortable with a moderate level of UK travel and hold a UK driving licence
preferably have some experience in or understanding of fuels distribution or similar sector
The company offer a competitive salary of between £50K and £60K depending on experience, along with many other company benefits including pension scheme, competitive annual leave entitlement and the ability to purchase shares in the business.
