Our client is looking for an experienced Meteorologist to join the Power Trading team to formulate/communicate weather forecasts to support the company’s energy trading activities.
The chosen candidate will be responsible for generating pan-european daily/weekly/monthly weather forecasts as needed by trading desk, providing input into trading decisions that may result in the establishment of large speculative and hedging trading positions. Communicating high impact weather events that may move both gas and power markets and developing a proprietary long-term seasonal forecast across Europe for both the trading desk and the Company management team.
Generates nationwide daily/weekly/monthly forecasts, to include both the expected consensus forecasts and the meteorologist’s expected actual forecast. Required to provide input into actual trading decisions impacted by weather forecasts. As needed, generates load forecasts for proprietary variable load shapes, including requirements and partial requirements customers. As needed, generates load forecasts for proprietary renewable resources.
Completes model run updates and associated commentary for trade desk. Provides weather update for the next trading day(s). Provides commentary on long range weather models, with weather updates on all market durations. Responsible to communicate significant weather events that may have an impact on traded gas and power markets.
Responsible for providing and updating, long term seasonal forecasts for regions of the country actively traded by the company. Required to provide input into trading decisions impacted by weather forecasts. Also studies and provides reports on weather influenced variables that may impact gas and power market prices.
Uses extensive knowledge of financial derivatives, including futures, swaps, options, weather derivatives, and HDD and CDD swaps, to support trading and analytical staff to value and price various origination products.
BS in Meteorology (MS preferred).
Demonstrated aptitude with numerical weather prediction models and statistical programming languages such as VBA, Python, SQL, etc. required.
