​​We are looking for an Oil Analyst to join a Commodities Trading House in Central London.

​This is a permanent role within the Oil and Products Analytics team, who are in charge of market fundamentals analysis regarding crude oil and refined products, collecting information, developing models and sharing results with various internal customers.

The Oil & Products Analyst will be responsible for producing timely and accurate fundamentals market analysis tailored to the needs of the business internal customers.

Tasks may include regular and ad hoc market commentaries and presentations, analysis and flash reporting when required.

You will:

  • analyse crude oil and products market data; understand trends and provide regular assessments of in-house views of global commodity fundamentals and prices, as well as test and support the findings

  • develop and maintain a flow of proactive information exchange with colleagues in the analytics team and the oil and products trading desks, providing support and analysis in real time

  • highlight trading opportunities based on timely and accurate market analysis and reports

  • propose and discuss market analysis models with internal customers, lead their development and maintenance and make sure they are technically sound, providing consistent results

  • assist in determining and discussing, with internal customers and colleagues in the analytics team, key assumptions and methodologies in modelling the complex global Oil & Products markets

  • define ways to improve tools to structure analysis, information provider selection, data gathering and management with the aim for optimisation in terms of quality, efficiency of results and costs

  • write accurate and timely market analysis reports as requested by internal customers both on a regular and ad-hoc basis effectively communicating the analysis results

  • prepare ad hoc material and presentations for management when required

You should have:

  • a degree in statistics, economics, finance, engineering

  • solid knowledge of oil & products fundamentals and their markets

  • a minimum 3 years working experience (at least 2 years in fundamentals)

  • analytics experience related to crude and/or refined products or a longer experience, in related roles like, but not limited to, other commodities analytics and/or trading

  • specific experience in the light products market fundamentals

  • an ability to handle large quantities of information and data including modelling experience (i.e. build and maintain complex refining models, develop queries, work with languages like SQL, Python)

You should be:

  • an innovative thinker, with strong analytical skills

  • able to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions

  • able to communicate results in a suitable way for internal customers

  • proactive with an understanding and respect of roles

  • comfortable working in a large company and in a trading environment with activities to be developed in real time and sometimes under pressure

  • able to cooperate with colleagues in different locations

  • effective at time management, and have the capability to meet deadlines with the willingness to put extra commitment in when necessary

  • motivated and show commitment and dedication for the role

  • fluent in English whilst the ability to speak/write other languages appreciated
