Senior Business Analyst

We have an exciting opportunity for a Business Analyst to join a Global Energy Trading House in Central London.  


The D&IT Middle Office Senior Business Analyst will play a pivotal role in delivering the best possible systems for the trading and risk IT portfolio by:

  • Working side-by-side with the business functions and application maintenance teams to ensure the efficient day-to-day operations of the systems, becoming a functional expert

  • Driving requirements gatherings and specifications, choosing the most effective means to elicit and document these with workshops, storyboards, user stories, or other methods

  • Analysing and verifying requirements for completeness, consistency, comprehensibility, feasibility, and conformity to standards, as well as documenting these fully

  • Working closely with the development teams to brainstorm, prototype, analyse and deliver on requirements as efficiently as possible, keeping projects on track

  • Complying with established processes where required, and working across teams to define processes and documentation/training as new features and systems are implemented

  • Contribute to the definition of full testing procedures, and working with the business colleagues to plan and deliver these to ensure than newly developed functionality and newly implemented systems are fit for purpose

  • Have a holistic view of solutions and understand the wider impact

  • Participate across the organisation to deliver far-reaching programmes of transformation or initiatives across all areas of the organisation



This position reports to the Head of Digital & IT Middle Office, and the role has the following interfaces:

  • Internal –Middle Office, Front Office, Back Office units, as well as other D&IT teams

  • External – System Integrators/Delivery Partners, Software Vendors




  • University degree with emphasis on Computer Science, Mathematics/Statistics or equally by experience

  • At least 5 years’ experience in an IT focused environment

  • Detailed understanding of the commodity trade lifecycle, risk reporting and valuation

  • Knowledge of ETRM or trading packages and relevant implementation experience

  • Demonstrated ability with Excel, MS Power suite, SQL languages, or a data analysis package

  • Experience applying business analysis methodologies in either Waterfall or Agile projects

  • Can do attitude and a desire to learn

  • Great communication skills and an ability to build strong relationships across all organisational levels

  • Flexible team player who understands the importance of responding to change constructively

  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills, with an eye for accuracy



  • Experience of working with an Agile Development Methodology (such as Scrum or Lean start up)

  • Experience in a commodity/energy trading environment

  • Knowledge of programming and/or scripting languages
