​We're working on behalf of an established energy trading business in Dublin, Ireland to expand their 24/7 gas and power shift desk which will be responsible for trading and optimising the business' asset portfolio into the dynamic and vibrant ISEM market.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the ISEM Trading Manager, the key responsibilities and duties include:

  • Preparing and submitting ex-ante market bids for the portfolio of assets in the ISEM

  • Optimising balancing market bids to manage the assets ex-ante position while maximising within day opportunities

  • Trading within day gas and power markets to balance positions to reduce the business’ exposure to the balancing market as the units physical running changes

  • Managing the assets daily gas capacity position, reducing the exposure to overrun costs and maximising secondary trade opportunities

  • Managing the asset's carbon position and trade carbon in accordance with internal procedures and policies

  • Devising, developing and implementing short term trading strategies for both the ex-ante markets and balancing markets to optimise generation and maximise overall plant P&L

  • Participating in on-screen CfD trading to increase the overall P&L

  • Engaging with current and potential CfD counterparties to facilitate bilateral CfD trades, to identify risks/opportunities and how they impact the company’s commercial decisions

  • Working with on-site engineering to coordinate and plan short term outages to minimise commercial impact

  • Preparing, analysing, and summarising market reports for management and stakeholders

  • Providing regular and ad-hoc information to industry bodies

  • Conducting competitor analysis and a continuous review of participant bidding strategies

  • Sharing the responsibility with the trading team for the day to day back office duties of the trading department, producing monthly reports for senior management and stakeholders and preparing, analysing and summarising a market review for the weekly commercial meetings.

You should have the following:

Background

  • Experience in the gas and electricity markets (essential) and experience of trading CfDs would be advantageous

  • Proven track record in trading CCGT units in ISEM and trading gas/optimising gas contracts in a competitive manner

  • Excellent understanding of relevant bidding tactics to maximise profitability across a trading day for a merchant, generating assets including CCGTs, with experience and knowledge in optimising portfolio bidding an advantage

  • In-depth knowledge of the gas market, it’s tariffs and the impact gas capacity have on CCGT bidding

  • An understanding of market rules and regulations that govern the gas and electricity markets (Trading & Settlement Code, BCOP, REMIT, EMIR etc)

  • Experience with market data tools and trade screens (e.g., Bloomberg, Spectron, WebICE)

  • Excellent MS Office knowledge - Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.

  • Experience of database applications and statistical tool skills would be advantageous. e.g., SQL Management Studio, VBA, PLEXOS etc.

  • An understanding of how weather data can impact day to day trading activity

  • Interest in the Energy industry including I-SEM and ongoing developments

Qualifications

  • Degree in a relevant disciplined (engineering, economic, maths/science)
