Global trading company is looking for a Systems/Data Analyst/Developer who is bright, able to work in a number of different environments, and is a pragmatic and adaptable problem solver. This is a hybrid role that straddles the Risk/Product Control and IT Development, and will cover a wide range of data projects and applications in the company's Oil Division. The projects and applications address a number of areas, ranging from pre-trade Analytics systems, through instrument pricing and valuation, to stress testing, and reporting.

The role will suit someone who has keen interest and curiosity in data related subjects, system analysis and complex query/report writing - preferably in commodities or financial services. The candidate will have good exposure to one or more database technologies including SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase ASE, and Sybase IQ. Prior exposure to Reporting/OLAP tools such as Business Objects and Tableau is also desirable.

A strong academic background, with good mathematical/science fluency, will count in your favour. Enthusiasm and an ability to think "out-of-the-box" will be valued, and knowledge/understanding of commodities businesses will be an advantage.

You should expect to "roll up your sleeves", and get involved wherever necessary to ensure successful project delivery.

Work as part of a hybrid Risk/IT team, designing, building and operating data-rich IT solutions for product control and market risk reporting/valuation functions
Liaise with users to understand system problems, determine desired system behavior, trouble shoot to find solution and specify required system changes to IT.
Design and develop application enhancements according to agreed coding standards and quality targets
Participate in code reviews and unit testing
Become fast learner of an in-house valuation, analytics and reporting systems in order to provide operational cover, system trouble shooting, and with time participate in projects to further enhance system functionality..

Strong SQL skills and exposure to one or more database environments, e.g. MS SQL, Oracle, Sybase, MySQL etc.
Exposure to one or more reporting/OLAP technologies, e.g. Business Objects, Cognos, Tableau.
Good understanding and awareness of modern analysis and design techniques
Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
Problem solving skills and the ability to develop innovative solutions to problems.

At least 2:1 BSc/BA in a Mathematics, Sciences or Engineering degree. Post-graduate qualification in same area also useful
Experience in designing and developing applications within a commercial organization a distinct advantage
Knowledge of Commodity - oil an advantage - or Financial trading also an advantage
